Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and Oscar-nominated actor Sam Shepard died Monday at age 73.
According to Entertainment Tonight, his death followed a battle with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Many took to Twitter to mourn and offer touching condolences.
Rainn Wilson tweeted, 'R.I.P. Sam Shepard - cowboy poet dramatist of the American family shadow. A legend.'
