During the summer of 1967, in Detroit and other major cities, discontent over racial injustice was escalating.
A five-day uprising in Detroit resulted in hundreds of injuries and 43 deaths.
The riots began with a police raid of an after-hours nightclub.
The film holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes
In her review for the SF Gate, Claudia Puig said it's "an impeccably-rendered and pivotal battle in a much longer, shattering war."
