Russia-themed thrillers are flooding Hollywood, but Russian president Vladimir Putin will not be making an appearance. Putin has already been removed from two upcoming studio features. Fox's "Red Sparrow," tells the story of a Russian spy
played by Jennifer Lawrence who becomes a double agent. Although the film is set in the present day, Fox likely wanted to avoid the chance of Russian hackers protesting the project. Putin is also missing from EuropaCorp's upcoming "Kursk," the true story of a Russian submarine that sunk in the Barents Sea in 2000, although he did appear in early versions of the screenplay. CEO of security firm Vera, said, "For a studio to release a movie about Putin that makes him look like a fool would be suicide. That's a certain way to be targeted [for retaliation]."
