Though the idea didn?t sit well with some fans, "Broadchurch" star Jodie Whittaker was revealed as the 13th Doctor Who in a brief video shown on BBC 1 and across the globe via social media. Whittaker will be the first female Doctor, a casting choice that is already proving controversial. As an actress, Whittaker is known for delivering subtle, nuanced performances that really pack a punch. The incoming "Doctor Who" showrunner, Chris Chibnall, has previously worked with Whittaker on "Broadchurch." Whitaker will take over from Peter Capaldi as The Doctor starting in 2018 with Season 11.
