In her most recent film, The Bad Batch, writer and director Ana Lily Amirpour tells the story of an outcast named Arlen who's struggling to make her way through a dystopian near-future. Amirpour says the idea for the film began with an "image of this girl in the desert bleeding in the middle of nowhere, but just dragging herself on." She went on to say that "It?s a love letter to America." Bad Batch opens in theaters on June 23.
