Sofia Coppola was set to direct the live-action version of ?The Little Mermaid? in 2015, but she stepped away from the project after it got to grandiose. In an interview, she stated, ?It became too big of a scale. I wanted to shoot it really underwater, which would have been a nightmare. But underwater photography is so beautiful. We even did some tests. It was not ver realistic, that approach. But it was interesting to think about.? After the test didn?t work Coppola realized the project was more about money than it was about telling an honest story.
