Television talk-show host Bill Maher has drawn a fair share of criticism after using a racial epithet on his HBO series "Real Time" whilst interviewing Nebraska senator Bill Sasse. Maher reportedly used the epithet after Sasse invited him to visit Nebraska and work in the fields. Maher, in an attempt to draw distinction between slaves that toiled in fields and slaves that were allowed to work indoors, used the slur to refer to himself as the latter.
