Once a year, author J.K. Rowling apologizes for killing off one of her beloved characters. In 2016, Rowling apologized for knocking off Remus Lupin, and she was "really sorry" about Fred Weasley in 2015. This year, the author said she was sorry for killing off Alan Rickman's Professor Snape. Rowling's apologies have often been met with anger by fans, who say the author's revisionist history and belated apologies do nothing but rip open old wounds.
