Cheers are in order for Peter Capaldi, as he celebrates his 59th birthday today! The Glaswegian actor, director, and writer has appeared on stage, screen (big and small), and airwaves for nearly three decades. But to most of us, he?ll always be foul-mouthed spinmeister Malcolm Tucker and time-traveling alien, the Twelfth Doctor. Tall, lanky, and handsome in that I-like-expressive-eyebrows kind of way, Capaldi, won an Academy Award, played in an ?80s punk band with Craig Ferguson, and is one of the most recognizable faces in the world. Before stepping into the TARDIS, he found fame lampooning the British government in 21 episodes of BBC sitcom The Thick of It (and spin-off film In the Loop). It wasn?t until August 2013, however, that Capaldi gained international recognition: In a reveal fit for a Time Lord, he was announced as the 12th actor to take on Doctor Who?s titular character.
