The Sony project will be a remake of a 2011 Mexican drama about a woman who enters a beauty contest but is then swept up in a deadly crime ring. Catherine Hardwicke will direct a remake of Miss Bala for Sony. The 2011 film debuted in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, and was Mexico?s submission for the 84th Academy Awards. Kevin Misher (Carrie, Public Enemies) will produce under his Misher Films banner, along with Pablo Cruz, of Canana Films, who produce the 2011 original.
