Octavia Spencer was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Dorothy Vaughan in the movie Hidden Figures. Hidden Figures tells the story of 3 African American female mathematicians who played a prominent role at NASA during the Space Race. When asked if she believed the fan fare behind the movie would make a difference in improving inclusion Spencer said "You know, exactly, one could hope. I am just glad that the story is being told. The more we tell stories that haven't been told, the more we allow for inclusion." Hidden Figures was nominated for a total of three Oscars, two Golden Globes, and took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture -
