Mel Gibson received a nod for Best Director at the 2017 Oscars, but Damian Chazelle won it over him. The acclaimed director did however take home a Razzie award. He won the Redeemer Award at the show, which honors some of the worst movies of the year. Gibson received critical acclaim for his new war movie "Hacksaw Ridge." The movie looked like a comeback film for the director, which comes 10 years after he was ostracized following a drunken antisemitic rant.
