Netflix has bought out the rights from Paramount and STX Entertainment in order to produce Martin Scorsese's dream project, The Irishman. An exact number hasn't been revealed but STX paid $50 million for worldwide distribution rights, so the price had to exceed that. Over the past few years, Netflix has been expanding its original content. Its most "notable successes" have been with TV shows like Orange is the New Black and Stranger Things, while their original films have been more of a "mixed bag." This appears to be changing though.
