Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain would have turned 50 Monday. Cobain "defined grunge and the rise of alternative rock" and to this day he "remains an enduring cultural presence even for many young people." Cobain shot himself at his home in Seattle when he was 27 years old. Since his 1994 suicide alternative music has continued evolving but Nirvana's 1991 masterpiece, Nevermind, "is still widely considered one of the most influential albums in history."
