In 2010, Lena Dunham was receiving a lot of buzz following the release of her breakout indie film "Tiny Furniture." She was being "whisked from one Hollywood office to the next," and HBO was the first and only TV studio she met with. The netowrk was "eager to have her," encouraging her to put some show ideas down on paper. She told The Hollywood Reporter that her first pitch for "Girls" was more like a "poem about millennial life." Looking back on it she says it was "pretentious and horrifying.
