It's extremely rare for The Golden Globes to pay tribute to those who have died in the previous year, "so it was especially notable that the awards show took the time to pay tribute to Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, who died within a day of one another in late December." Host Jimmy Fallon introduced a montage of Reynolds and Fisher, which included clips from their most iconic films like Singin' in the Rain and Star Wars. Before the montage played, Fallon said, "a few weeks ago, we lost a mother and daughter within just a couple of days, and it was a terrible loss that we all felt."
