In a recent interview, Janet Hirshenson, casting director for the Harry Potter films, revealed that she turned down Robin Williams for the part of Hagrid. "Robin had called because he really wanted to be in the movie, but it was a British-only edict," said Hirshenson. The role eventually went to Robbie Coltrane, who J.K. Rowling had wanted to play Hagrid to begin with.
