George Michael wasn't just a cultural icon of decades past or a gay musician who publicly embraced his sexuality.
He was also a prolific philanthropist and a supporter of causes supporting gays, vulnerable children, and underpaid nurses.
Michael was often quiet in his giving. "Childline" offers counselling services to children and teens. On Monday its founder said that Michael gave millions to the charity anonymously.
George Michael died at age 53 Sunday, reportedly from heart failure.
