VIDEO : Martin Scorsese?s 'Silence'

Martin Scorsese?s adaptation of Sh?saku End??s 1966 novel ?Silence? has had a long wait, making the eventual release have a devotional air. A good thing for the most part, it?s an invitingly grim movie, intended for both the believers and the curious. The film is cinematically rigorous at times, but never gaudy. ?Silence? is a controversy-initiating, difficult-viewing return for Scorsese decades after upsetting many by depicting Jesus as human in ?The Last Temptation of Christ.? With a run time of over two-and-a-half hours, some who?d rather see the director work with matters more profane than sacred may be warded off. However, Scorsese is back to demanding and personal filmmaking.
