Peter Jackson Peter Jackson is heading to the box office for the 2018 holiday season. Universal Pictures will release Mortal Engines on Dec. 14, 2018, the studio announced on Thursday. Jackson and Fran Walsh, his wife and partner in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, wrote the script with their collaborator, Philippa Boyens.
