"Moonlight" is one of the highest rated movies of the year, with much praise directed to Naomie Harris's character. The British actress plays the main character's crack-addicted mother. Harris told the Hollywood Reporter that she was hesitant to play a drug addict mom at first, since she grew up around strong and intelligent black women, which are rarely portrayed on screen. She said her change of heart came once director Barry Jenkins said she'd essentially be portraying his mother. After that moment, Harris said, "here's someone who's emotionally invested in ensuring that this character is given her full complexity and her full humanity."
