In the past couple of weeks, the nation has seen a growing conversation about rape and rape culture, largely galvanized by the release of Donald Trump's now-infamous 2005 tape.
Actor and activist Rose McGowan has joined the ranks of those opening up about experience with sexual violence with the the hashtag WhyWomenDon'tReport.
On Twitter, McGowan recounted an incident involving a Hollywood executive, whom she did not name, that went unreported.
In a series of tweets with the hashtag, McGowan wrote, "Because my ex sold our movie to my rapist for distribution #WhyWomenDontReport"
Followed by, "because it's been an open secret in Hollywood/Media & they shamed me while adulating my rapist. #WhyWomenDontReport"
McGowan also wrote that she was told by a lawyer that legal action against the studio head who raped would fail because she once did a sex scene for a movie.
McGowan's final tweet called for "honesty in this world".
