Actor John Malkovich won libel damages on Friday from the French daily Le Monde. The lawsuit was over an article that suggested Malkovich had "a secret Swiss bank account." An article in February 2015 about HSBC's Swiss private banking and tax evasion inlcuded Malkovich "in a list of celebrities it claimed had held secret accounts with the bank between 2005 and 2007." Lawyers for the actor told the court that he never had an account with HSBC. A share account held by the actor had been closed in 1999, before the institution was sold to HSBC. Le Monde says it will appeal the ruling.
