In an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday, iconic performer and activist Harry Belafonte said that he saw Nate Parker's upcoming Nat Turner slave rebellion drama 'Birth of a Nation' and was wowed by the project. Belafonte went on to call the film "a winner" and said the 36-year-old Parker ? who directed, wrote, produced and starred in the film ? "a very bright young man." However, Belafonte added that he's not yet clear about the facts and wants to look more into the story concerning a 17-year-old rape case involving Parker in which he was acquitted in court. Belafonte said, "It's interesting because it's coming out the same time the film's coming out. Of all the stories you can tell, why are you telling this story? He's wasn't somebody who had committed a crime and got away with it. He faced the justice system."
