Natalie Portman's directorial debut "A Tale of Love and Darkness," a feature film adapted from Israeli author Amos Oz's autobiographical novel, has received poor early reviews. The story is set in Jurasalem following the end of World War II in the first few years of independent Israel and is told from the perspective of 10-year-old Amos. Portman play's Amos' mother and Gilad Kahana plays his father. Many critics are saying that Portman's adaptation did not capture the depth of the book.
