Sharon Jones recently celebrated the premiere of her visceral documentary, Miss Sharon Jones!, in Los Angeles. How did she celebrate? By treating herself to a celebratory meal of roast chicken and a ginger beer. Jones, who's been battling stage four pancreatic cancer, was glad to have her appetite return for three consecutive days. "The last few months, I've been losing so much weight because I don't have an appetite," Jones says over the phone. "The chemo makes me really sick. So now I'm so happy I'm eating food! It's staying down and it tastes good." But this soul powerhouse is not letting cancer get in the way of her fall plans, which involve touring with Hall & Oates; putting together an as-yet-untitled new album with her band, the Dap-Kings; and eventually crafting a gospel album. Her documentary, Miss Sharon Jones! opens nationwide this month, and centers on Jones' initial cancer diagnosis, her treatment, and ultimately getting back on the road for the Dap-Kings.
