Known for his screenwriting on classics such as "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull," writer Paul Schrader's directing career has had its up and downs, culminating in 2013's "The Canyons" starring Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen. But his latest film, "Dog Eat Dog," based on ex-con Edward Bunker's 1995 crime novel, seems like a return to form. And the first official trailer showcases its two lead actors, Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe, who are infamous for crafting memorable, over the top performances. Here, Cage plays it straight against Dafoe?s feral mad dog, and there's plenty of unhinged action and mayhem throughout. There's little doubt the dark comedy will get attention when it sees a theatrical release after premiering at Cannes earlier this year, but whether it puts Schrader back on the cinematic map remains to be seen.
