VIDEO : William Shatner Says 'Star Wars' Created 'Star Trek'

At a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas last weekend, William Shatner shocked fans by telling them that the franchise responsible for "Star Trek" was "Star Wars." Although the original "Star Trek" TV show was released ten years before "Star Wars," the actor explained that the success of "Star Wars" in 1977 sparked Paramount Studios to reboot the idea from the old television show, and it greenlit "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." Shatner told fans, "Star Trek at its best tells human stories. It?s philosophical. There?s humanity. There?s a principle involved. And it?s well done. It?s about people. Star Wars was grand, like opera. It was huge with great special effects."
