J.J. Abrams directed the first two movies in the rebooted Star Trek universe but stepped away and offered the original 50-year-old space franchise to filmmaker Justin Lin. Lin is best-known for directing the action-packed installments of the Fast & Furious series but has been a huge Stark Trek fan since he was young.
This combo makes Star Trek Beyond feels a lot like an episode of the original series but with added insane action sequences.
