Star Wars VIII director Rian Johnson discussed the new installment at Star Wars Celebration Europe. He said Star Wars VIII would pick up where the Force Awakens leaves off. Johnson also credited Three Outlaw Samurai and 12 O?Clock High for influencing the movie. Johnson referred to The Force Awakens as ?an incredible explosion of adventure. " Episode VIII will instead be more character-heavy and dig beneath the surface of protagonists Rey and Finn. Episode VIII, like The Force Awakens before it, will also feature much in the way of practical sets and backdrops
