VIDEO : Zachary Quinto Defends Decision to Make Sulu Gay

Star Trek actors are divided on their opinions about Sulu's sexual orientation. It was revealed this week that the character will be gay in the new movie Star Trek Beyond. The first actor to portray the character, noted gay activist George Takei, has come out against the idea, saying that it is not in keeping with series creator Gene Roddenberry's original intentions. Now Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the new film and is a gay man himself, has weighed in, saying, ""As a member of the LGBT community myself, I was disappointed by the fact that George was disappointed." According to Quinto, nothing about the original character has changed, since the new films take place in an alternate universe.
