VIDEO : Remembering Filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami

Filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami passed away on Monday at the age of 76. He was part of the Iranian New Wave during a time when Iran was a mecca for intellectual thought. Despite his country being overtaken by an authoritarian regime, his films remained surprisingly optimistic -- and perhaps that was his greatest political act. His films were praised for their poetic, meditative portraits of human life. In his film Close Up, the lead character says, ?For me, art is the experience of what you?ve felt inside.? That's clearly something that Kiarostami felt as well and portrayed so masterfully in his films.
