The original anime film Akira takes place in an alternate reality where a third World War breaks out in the 1980s, giving rise to the story?s primary setting: a dystopian version of Tokyo (known as Neo-Tokyo) circa 2019.
A live action reboot of the film has been in on and off development for years.
