The Star Trek film franchise, was reintroduced in 2009 by filmmaker J.J. Abrams. The first installment in the modern sci-fi franchise brought new life and a whole new audience to the age of classic, while also gaining the attention of some of Hollywoods most prestigious. Though in 2013, the franchise lost a bit of steam as it relied heavily on memories of The Wrath of Khan -knowledge longtime trekkies can recall.
