Politics is a big money game. Big money as in billions. Hillary Clinton is a fundraising juggernaut. She has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for her presidential campaign. Donald Trump, on the other hand, is an alleged billionaire, who has been funding his year-long campaign for the GOP nomination single-handedly. Now that he is facing a massive general election that could cost upwards of half a billion dollars, he needs a help. Big money Republican donors, however, are reluctant to take out their check books. Big campaign spenders lost hundreds of millions on flop candidates like Chris Christie, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and the biggest flop of 2016 Jeb Bush. Trump could have spent the last few weeks toning his rhetoric down and building up a 50-state campaign operation. Instead, he's been embroiled in the Trump university lawsuit and has isolated himself by racially insulting a federal judge. Instead of doing the work and building an operation, he has leaned on the GOP establishment to raise the money and set up a campaign that can beat Hillary Clinton. Big money donors have seen the chaos and until Trump changes, they will be keeping their checkbooks in their pockets.
