In a surprise appearance at the annual Council of Fashion Designers of America awards, Beyonce strode onstage in sparkling pinstripes Monday evening to speak emotionally about both family and fashion. The pop superstar was honored with the Fashion Icon award at the event. Usually, organizers announce the name of the Fashion Icon winner well in advance, but this year they kept it under wraps until the end of the ceremony, when designer Diane von Furstenberg took the stage to introduce Beyonce, saying she represented everything women aspire to be.
