Tom Hanks discussed the passing of singer Prince during his appearance on The Late Show Thursday night. During the interview, the 59-year-old Oscar-winning actor described staying up late to watch the musician on a show in his dad and stepmother's house, saying, "I just said, who is this grand funkmeister that's gonna take us to the revolution? It's not often you watch TV and think, 'This is a brand new thing.'" The actor went on to say that he felt Prince had taken the funk style of musicians like Rick James and transformed it with his musical abilities. Hanks added, "It was like 'finally someone has cracked Rick James' code', he took it and elevated it and that was the beginning of decades of that and now he's gone and God bless him and we're going to miss him."
