The Joker has always been Batman's greatest villain, and when Jared Leto signed on to play the role in the new Suicide Squad movie, he knew he had to go all in to do justice to the part. To prepare for the role, Leto told Entertainment Weekly that he started by talking with professional Psychiatrists who regularly worked with Psychopaths. He said that he wanted to build a character that truly created art through violence. Leto also spent time with the psychiatrists institutionalized patients, finding out what kind of motivations drove their sense of humor. He emphasized that the Joker has a great sense of humor, and his research really helped him find a tone for that humor.
