Disney has pulled back the curtain on how Daisy Ridley was cast for the lead in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
J.J. Abrams revealed in a video on Friday, part of the home-video release of the film, that "what we were looking for was someone new. This character needed to be vulnerable and tough, sweet and terrified. And to find someone that no one knew who could do all these things took a lot of looking."
In the short video, audiences watch Ridley cry in multiple takes of her audition for the part of heroine Rey.
