Pre-Oscar buzz over the 88th Academy Awards focused on host Chris Rock and how he would handle the "elephant" in the room. To a crowd filled with predominantly white nominee's and zero nominations for actors of color Rock delivered a monologue that had the audience transfixed and unsure if their responses to jokes were appropriate as Rock targeting the whitewashed nature of the industry.
Rock came out swinging referring to the time-honored Hollywood ceremony as the "White People's Choice Awards." His initial delivery was blunt and humorous but as the evening winded down, so did Rock's understanding of the bigger problem at hand.
