When Lorde paid tribute to David Bowie at the 2016 BRIT Awards, she wasn't wearing an orange wig. That's to say it looked nothing whatsoever like Lady Gaga's tribute to Bowie at the 2016 Grammys, where she rushed through his hits in a Halloween costume-like getup, never letting the audience really experience how powerful his songs were. After Bowie's death at age 69 last month, the New Zealand-born Lorde remembered him in a lengthy note on Facebook, comparing him to "a piece of bright pleated silk we could stretch out or fold up small inside ourselves when we needed to."
