VIDEO : New Study Confirms Hollywood Diversity Issue

A new study confirms what people have been saying for years: "the film industry still functions as a straight, White, boy?s club,?. The study was conducted by the Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism and found that after reviewing 414 films and television shows, women, people of color and other marginalized groups are not represented proportionally. Out of the 11,306 speaking roles observed only 33.5 percent were female and women were much more likely to be sexualized. Only 2 percent of speaking characters in the observed shows were LGBT-identified and at least half or more of all stories failed to portrayed a speaking or named Asian or Asian American character. The study concludes that "the complete absence of individuals from these backgrounds is a symptom of a diversity strategy that relies on tokenistic inclusion rather than integration.?
