According to his publicist, venerable actor Ken Watanabe is battling cancer.
The 56-year-old was due for a return performance in a revival for "The King and I."
The Japanese actor was scheduled to perform the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical from March 1-April 17.
His press agent added on Tuesday that he has already begun treatment following endoscopic surgery.
Watanabe, who made his Broadway debut on stage last year, has received nominations from the Tony Awards and the Oscars.
