Louis C.K. surprised fans last weekend when he sent an email out to announce his new series, Horace and Pete, which stars C.K. and Steve Buscemi, and offered its first episode for $5 via his official site. "Part of the idea behind launching it on the site was to create a show in a new way and to provide it to you directly and immediately, without the usual promotion, banner ads, billboards and clips that tell you what the show feels and looks like before you get to see it yourself," he said in the email, explaining that prior promotion can ruin the experience both from a TV writer and watcher perspective.
