Will Smith said he will join his wife Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee in boycotting this year's Oscars due to a lack of diversity in the acting categories. Smith said, "There is a position that we hold in this community, and if we're not part of the solution, we're part of the problem." The actor's turn in Concussion is one of several roles that critics of the Oscars have pointed to, along with performances by Michael B. Jordan in Creed and Idris Elba in Beasts of No Nation. Smith added, "There is a regressive slide towards separatism, towards racial and religious disharmony and that's not the Hollywood that I want to leave behind."
