Will Smith has announced that he will not attend 2016's Oscars ceremony. In an interview with Good Morning America's Robin Roberts on Thursday, the actor said he would join his wife Jada Pinkett Smith in boycotting Hollywood's biggest night because no actors of color were nominated for awards this year. The two-time Oscar nominee said, "I think that I have to protect and fight for the ideals that make our country and make our Hollywood community great." On Monday, Pinkett posted a video message on her official Facebook page saying she wouldn't watch or attend the ceremony, without her husband's knowledge. On Thursday, Smith claimed he was "out of the country" at the time and didn't know that his wife was planning on boycotting. However, the Concussion actor says he completely supports her decision.
