Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, known for films like "Crimson Peak" and "Pan's Labyrinth," is starting work on an adaptation of the popular children?s horror series "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark." Written by Alvin Schwartz and published between 1981 and 1991, the series comprises a trilogy of controversial story collections that topped the American Library Association?s list of ?most frequently challenged? publications between 1990 and 1999, citing ?violence? and ?unsuited for age group? as the reasons. On Jan. 14, the filmmaker tweeted the news to horror fans, writing: ?I start development on a film based on a favorite book of youth.? At the moment, del Toro is listed as one of the project?s producers, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, he ?may potentially direct? the film, which has been picked up by CBS Films.
