British actor Alan Rickman, well known for decades as a top cast in some of Hollywood's biggest films, has died.
The 69-year-old succumbed to cancer surrounded by friends and family.
Among his long-list of roles, Rickman is more recently known for portraying Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films.
And though he is more infamously known for the role of Hans Gruber in Die Hard, Rickman's acting career spanned three decades from the stage to the screen.
A graduate of London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Rickman got his first break on Broadway in the mid-1980s.
Though he became commonly type-cast as the bad guy, he also won acclaim for sensitive roles in films such as Truly Madly Deeply.
