An open letter written by Alan Rickman to J.K. Rowling has resurfaced following the news of the actor's death on Thursday.Published in Empire, Rickman reflects on his work on the film series as it came to an end. In the letter, he said he had talked into the microphone as Severus Snape for the last time. The dubbing studio had a screen with actors Daniel, Emma and Rupert from ten years ago. Rickman remembered the phone call with JK Rowling, which he said contained one small clue that persuaded him that Snape was not an unchanging costume. At the time, only three of the books were out, but Rickman says Rowling had a firm grasp on the direction of the story. He ended the letter saying "It is an ancient need to be told stories. But the story needs a great storyteller. Thanks for all of it, Jo."
