In 2012, George Lucas agreed to sell Lucasfilm to Disney for $4 billion, with the centerpiece of the deal being the rights to Star Wars. Many would assume after that lucrative payday Lucas would be thrilled with the Mouse House but in an interview with Charlie Rose, Lucas compared Disney to "white slavers." Lucas didn't finish his thought in the interview as he appeared to realize mid-sentence that he made a very poor and offensive analogy. However, he didn't apologize at the time for the remark and tried to laugh it off. Now that his "white slavers" remark is getting lots of unwanted attention, Lucas has issued an official apology, saying, "I want to clarify my interview on the Charlie Rose Show. It was for the Kennedy Center Honors and conducted prior to the premiere of the film. I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy and for that I apologize."
